Would you wear one of these?

I polled reader on my Facebook Group about author swag a while back. Now I need to know what series they (and you) might be interested for T-shirts, totes, and mugs.

Below are my logos (and I have others, like Sweet Sue's from Victoria Square, etc.)

A question on Teacup Tuesday

Happy Teacup Tuesday. The Victoria Square Tea Room becomes very important in YULE B E DEAD, which comes out on November 27th. In once scene, Vendor Gwen mentions to Katie that one of the scones she bought had a tiny piece of mold on it.

Here's the backstory behind that little tidbit:  There was a little barbecue restaurant near our cottage. There never seemed to be any customers, and Mr. L and I felt sorry for the proprietress. So one day we decided to try it. It was very small--only about four tables. Mr. L LOVES barbecue and she made pork barbecue. So we ordered some pulled pork sandwiches. Mr. L thoroughly enjoyed his. But my bun had a spot of mold. I picked it off and ate the sandwich, but I wasn't happy about it. And we never went back. The place went out of business soon after. Now I always look at the bread on and sandwich I order.

Have you ever been to a restaurant and found mold on anything you ordered?

Life on Victoria Square

Life on square isolatedMy Victoria Square Mystery series has had a few ups and downs. It came out like gangbusters in 2011--and bam bam--two of the books hit the New York Times bestsellers list.  But then ... there was a nearly four-year lag from the time One Hot Murder came out and Dead, Bath and Beyond was published.

A lot of readers forgot about Katie Bonner and Artisans Alley.

I'm now writing the series with a co-author, but nobody told me my first co-author only had a one-book contract. I assumed we'd write the rest of the books in the contract together. Since her life had taken another turn, I had to find another author. Meanwhile, Victoria Square was once again taken out of the publishing schedule. My agent found the wonderful Gayle Trent (who also writes as Gayle Leeson and Amanda Lee), and we're hard at work on the next book in the series. (So far not titled.) We're back on the publishing schedule, but not until December 2018.  That's 18 months from now. So the big question is -- will readers forget about Katie and Artisans Alley once again?

Hopefully not -- because I've begun a companion series called LIFE ON VICTORIA SQUARE. In the Victoria Square Mysteries, Artisans Alley takes center stage, but the merchants--and their businesses--are just as intriguing. They all have stories to tell ... and that's what the Life on Victoria Square companion series is all about.
I began the series featuring Ray Davenport, the former homicide detective who has retired and opened a gift shop on Victoria Square.  In CARVING OUT A PATH, a young shoplifter not only swipes a couple of hand-carved figurines from Ray's Wood U shop, but barrels into and injures Katie Bonner, manager of Artisans Alley. Upon his escape, the police are called, but before the ink is dry on the report, the boy’s grandmother drags the would-be thief back to return the purloined items. She’s got an agenda and great expectations. Can Ray come through in a pinch?

The second installment, A BASKET FULL OF BARGAINS, comes out on Tuesday. This one features Gilda Ringwald-Stratton, owner of Gilda's Gourmet Baskets. Iris Drake is an odd duck. She knows everyone at Artisans Alley arts-and-crafts arcade, but nobody knows her. When she walks into Gilda’s shop on Victoria Square, she’s a stranger there, too—but not for long. Yet she hasn’t to come to Gilda to buy her wares—she’s there to sell some of her own. All goes well until Iris’s secret is exposed. Should Gilda step in to make things right, or walk away from an unpleasant situation?

I've already written a third story (now available for Pre-Order, and to be published on September 8th) called THE BROKEN TEACUP. I hadn't meant to feature Katie Bonner in any of the stories in this series, but I was inspired by a teacup I bought an an estate sale. Katie Bonner needs a pick-me-up one cold and gloomy fall day, and the US Mail delivers—literally. A mysterious package arrives at Artisans Alley with her name on it, but the return address is obscured and the treasure inside, a beautiful bone china teacup, is broken. Before Katie can open the accompanying card, she’s called away and one of the vendors mistakes the package for trash. Katie makes a quick rescue, but the card is gone. Who sent the cup? What is its significance? Can Katie solve this mini mystery?

I'm already plotting the next story, which will come out in either late December or early January.  My goal is to write a new story every three months -- at least until the new novel comes out.

Coming soon!

Theres’s good (and some bad) news for my Victoria Square readers. First, due to personal considerations, Laurie Cass will not be working with me on the next two books. (Yes, at least two more!) which makes me sad. But I'll be teaming up with another well-known cozy mystery author to write the next two books (and--cross your fingers--possibly beyond). I need to wait for her to ink the contract before I can announce her name, but I'm looking forward to working with her.

And now for the BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!

I've started a companion series called Life on Victoria Square. Every couple of months, I'll be putting out a new Victoria Square story featuring the merchants on Victoria Square, as well as some of the events they celebrate. The first story, available April 11th, features Ray Davenport, the former homicide detective turned shopkeeper.

A young shoplifter not only swipes a couple of hand-carved figurines from Ray Davenport, owner of Victoria Square's Wood U gift shop, but barrels into and injures Katie Bonner, manager of Artisans Alley. Upon his escape, the police are called, but before the ink is dry on the report, the boy's grandmother drags the would-be thief back to return the purloined items. She's got an agenda and great expectations. Can Ray come through in a pinch?

Victoria Square Returns!

After almost four years, the Victoria Square Mysteries has finally continued. Today is publication day for Dead, Bath and Beyond.

2 cover DBB

Nothing can spoil Katie Bonner’s perfect day of sailing with her friend, lawyer Seth Landers. That is, until she runs into her ex-boss Josh at the marina. As an employer, Josh liked to rock the boat and can still push all Katie’s buttons. After a loud discussion, she’s happy to say good-bye for what she hopes is the last time. And it was. For the next day, Josh is found drowned in a bathtub at Sassy Sally’s B&B on Victoria Square. Who pulled the plug on Josh? When an autopsy proves it was lake and not bath water that killed him, Katie finds herself in over her head, and races to find the killer before her life and business go down the drain.

Cakes, Cookies, Pies? It's your choice today!

10-14 Natl Dessert Day
Can you imagine a world without calories? Nah, neither can I.

BUT ... can you also imagine how sad it would be to live in a world without dessert?

Just think, no cakes, no pies, no cookies, no pastries, no ice cream, no cheesecake, no fruit. It's enough to make you cry! Luckily, that's not the world we live in.

You can go to the grocery store or bakery and indulge yourself and/or your family, or you can take the satisfaction of making dessert yourself.

Cropped_cookiesRecipes To Die For: A Victoria Square Cookbook can help.  Katie Bonner, of the Victoria Square Mysteries, has put together a collection of recipes for breakfast, lunch, happy hour (in the form of signature drinks), and dinner -- but most enjoyably, for teatime and dessert.

Pies, cookies, cakes -- you name it, she's made them and collected recipes from friends and fellow merchants on Victoria Square to share with readers and friends.

So maybe just for this one day -- indulge yourself. Make something wonderful for your family. Katie is glad to lend a hand!

So, what's YOUR favorite dessert?

Who knew there were so many Dollar Tree Haul Videos

I must be doing something REALLY wrong when it comes to my book trailer videos and uploading them to Youtube. After two years, the one for A Crafty Killing has EIGHT views. Book Clubbed has over 400, but most of them have less than 100.

One of my readers makes videos of her Dollar Tree hauls, which is how I got started watching them. There are literally HUNDREDS of Dollar Tree Haul videos out there and some of them get THOUSANDS of views. I didn't know this until I subscribed to one Lady's channel because she had a cooking video. (I LOVE cooking videos and watch a lot of them -- usually when I'm supposed to be writing.)

I try to get in and out of the Dollar Tree as fast as possible (because you can drop money like crazy for stuff you really don't need.) I mostly buy padded envelopes, cheaters, and batteries. When my Mum was alive, I'd buy her Ginger Snaps (if they had them--they go FAST. But then Wegmans started carrying them again, so now I can easily get MY ginger snap fix.)

So, what do you think the fascination is with the Dollar Tree?

P.S. If you want to see the Crafty Killing video (which Ellery Adams and I made together) click this link.

Victoria Square Returns!

GOOD NEWS! The next Victoria Square Mystery has a publication date. December 6, 2016. (I'll share more news as I have it!)

This is my concept of what the cover should look like. What do you think?

(Who knows what marketing will come up with. There will probably be a cat on the cover, which will bear no resemblance to the cats in the book.  That's been the trend so far.)

Victoria Square Returns!

MOVING FROM THE BACK BURNER TO THE

Like the picture says, Victoria Square is moving from the back burner to the front.

The series has been languishing while I've turned my attention to other things ... like writing The Booktown Mysteries, the Jeff Resnick Mysteries, the Lotus Bay Mysteries, and the Tales of Telenia adventure-fantasy series ... but readers have been begging for more Victoria Square and I'm happy to finally be able to oblige.

Cozy mystery author Laurie Cass and I will be collaborating on the series.  The next book is already in the works, and should be finished by year-end. Now we're waiting to hear when the series will be put back on the publishing schedule.  We're anticipating 2017 -- but have no fear, we'll let you know if it will be any sooner.

Laurie and I have been friends for years and we're excited to begin this journey together. Check out Laurie's website and if you haven't already read her wonderful Bookmobile Cat Mysteries, I hope you'll give them a try.

Claw_foot_bathtub5BTW, this is my inspiration picture for the next book, which I've tentatively called Dead, Bath, and Beyond.  (But don't count on that being the actual title.)

A purr-fectly lovely cover

As I think I mentioned last week ... the Victoria Square Mysteries are coming to audio.  It's been a long time coming, but a little judicious nagging certainly didn't hurt.

Yesterday, my editor sent me the cover for the first one, A Crafty Killing.  (It'll all be available on February 24th.) To be fair, it was gorgeous. There was just one honking big error. The cat.  It was a ginger cat.  A very handsome ginger cat, but it wasn't Mason, the cat in the story.  Mason is a tabby!

A Crafty Killing-sm1

Well, I let my editor know I was and wasn't happy. It's not his fault, after all, that Marketing ALWAYS gets it wrong!  The new art director was probably just taking a cue from the original cover. (Which wrongly has a ginger cat on it.)

When I didn't hear back from him during the next hour, I wondered if he might start to think I'm some kind of diva. And this audiobook is coming out from Tantor Media (a company that my publisher licensed the audio rights to).  I don't know how he did it, but my wonderful editor asked them to change the cover--and they did!!!!  Color me shocked, but extremely happy.

I think you have to agree, this cover is PURRfect.  I like the fact that Mason is glancing over his shoulder with a wary expression--looking for bad guys

A Crafty Killing-med

I'm liking Tantor Media!  Not only do they produce nice covers, but they actually offer the audiobooks as downloads AND on CD. I have not heard a sample of the book, but I have heard samples of the narrator reading other cozy mysteries, so I think she'll be a good fit.

You can order the audio edition of A Crafty Killing.  Just click here.  (It's also available from Amazon and will soon be available from iTunes and Audible.)

The book and ebook are still available, too, and there'll be more on the horizon, too.

I'll let you know when The Walled Flower and One Hot Murder are available during the next couple of months.

Live and soon to be live ....

Ever since I returned from the Ninc conference in late October, I've been hustling my butt working on a number of projects, some of which are now live and some that are still in the works. (I'll talk about that more in a week or so.)

LIVE -- FROM NEW YORK (okay, Rochester NY) IT'S ....

Cheated_by_death-smCheated By Death in audio!
(Jeff Resnick Mystery #4)

I've got a fabulous new narrator, Steven Barnett, and I'm hoping that we can re-record the earlier books in the series so that Steven will be the voice of Jeff Resnick.

Audible US  |  Audible UK  | Amazon  |  iTunes

To read more about the book, click this link to my website.

As I mentioned last week, BOUND BY SUGGESTION (Jeff Resnick Mystery #5) is also now available in audio.  OMG -- I'm thrilled with Steven's performance. It sure had me on the edge of my seat, and I wrote it!

And out as paperbacks ...

Evolution-SMEvolution: Jeff Resnick's Backstory
There's something about this book that haunts me. I think I've read it six times in the last month. I keep going back to it, and I don't usually go back and read my own stuff. (Although I do like to listen to it on audio in the car.) Maybe it's the whole "coming of age" aspect of the stories.

Not only is the book now available as a trade paperback, it'll soon be available in audio, too. (Again, performed by Steven Barnett.)  I'll let you know when that happens.  So far I've confined distribution to just Amazon because the paperbacks don't sell as well as the ebooks and there are costs associated with distribution (like being forced to not only give hefty discounts, but pay for returns--OUCH!).

To read more about the book, click this link to my website.

THRESHOLD-smTales Of Telenia: THRESHOLD
I don't know why this book doesn't seem to resonate with readers. It sure resonates with me. Why?  I'm not sure. I just know it, and the second book in the series, JOURNEY, were a heck of a lot of fun to write. I really enjoyed the experience and I thought my readers might be willing to leave their comfort zones to give my character Amanda Shelton a try. But I live in hope.  The sales for Evolution have picked up since the paperback edition came out. I'm hoping Amanda will have the same kind of luck.

If the sales pick up, not only will I squeeze the next book into my writing schedule, but I'll release the series as audiobooks, too.
