Are you being served?

I've been blogging for five years now (I started on LiveJournal), and until today, it never occurred to me to ask my readers what they liked (or worse, didn't like) about the blog.

Why am I thinking along these lines?  I've heard via the grapevine that the Sisters In Crime Bowker survey is going to tell authors where blogs rank for typical readers--and it isn't going to be happy news.

After blogging for five l-o-n-g years (you wouldn't believe how tough it is to come up with something to say five days a week), my "numbers" (that is, the people who actually come by to visit and/or comment) are terribly low.  Lorna may have a lot of book readers, but not many of them visit her web site or visit the blog(s).  That's discouraging.

Is blogging a good use of an author's time?

I really don't know.  But I hope the readers of this blog will give me some insight.
Therefore, I'm asking you to take a few minutes to fill out a survey to let me know how I'm doing.

Just click this link:  Lorna/Lorraine's Blog Survey.

Thank you.

(I will now go bite my nails.)

  1. I took the survey. Reading your blog is part of my morning routine. I don't always leave a comment, but I visit daily.

  2. Thank you, Bookwoman. Sometimes it seems like I'm bloggin in a vacuum. I'm glad to know you're there every day!

  4. Hey, Kiddo, your blog is absolutely one of my "To-Do's" every day! DZ&CF is on my Mozilla Firefox topping my browser window & always gets checked. Feels like I'm included in the conversation you have with your fans (and computer), so no matter how far the actual physical miles are between us and your other terrific fans, we're all together. That's kinda super. Almost like we're all next-door-neighbors with back-door, coffee/tea-klatch privileges. Keep on writing and care for a cuppa? :-)

  5. Laurie, I would LOVE a cup of tea. I haven't had one in about five months. Was all set to start drinking tea again when my ulcer flared up. Now I'm thinking Thanksgiving. (And you may recall earlier this year I bought 11 boxes of English decaf tea which has been sitting on my pantry shelves unopened since then.)

So I'll join you with a mug of Ovaltine (and I'll bring the oatmeal raisin cookies).

  6. Oh, you poor dear! So sorry to hear that dratted ulcer is raising its ugly head. Have you actually seen a doctor for it? You do know that most ulcers are caused by bacteria and can (and should) be treated with antibiotics, don't you? Hate to think of all those boxes of loverly tea sitting in the cupboard. See your doctor, OK?

  7. The problem with me is time. I am lucky if I can check my email once a day. So what I have done is signed up to "google reader". I unfortunatly don't have time to pop into every blog I read. I read every post, but never acctually go to the site.
