It needs a Christmas face lift . . .

Our tree 1-13-08 Our Christmas tree is up.  So are the stockings (well, three of them).  Our Christmas cards are hanging in the entryway on the cork wall. (Yeah, 1960s retro, but I painted it a neutral brown and it kind of disappears, and it's great for hanging the Mariner's Compass quilt wallhanging my Mom made and oh yes!  The Christmas Cards every year.)

The one thing I haven't done is hang the wreath on the front door.

It's a grapevine wreath with a garland of little gold stars and a big red bow.  And I'm sick of it.

I put it together about 12 years ago and like it well enough, but it's the same every year.  I was thinking I should remove the star garland and put something else shiny on it, as well as change the bow, but It's been snowy and I didn't think about it until yesterday and I'm about shopped out.  The idea of going out in the cold and snow one more time is just too much.  And anyway, I was in Micheals the other day and just about everything is GONE.  I waited too long.

Is there some Christmas decoration around your home that's well worn and could use a face lift?

  1. I've been wondering about my wreath, too. I made it about ten years ago - from things found at yard sales, for about $5.00 - and I still like it. It still looks good. But, like you, I'm tired of it. So how about we leave them up a few more days, and come up with new ones next year?

  2. I did the "throw that thing out and do something different" about 2 years ago,so I'm ok with the things I have. Just wish our kids didn't live so far away and they could come and see and share with us.

  3. First, although not classified as a "Christmas decoration," I'M certainly worn out and sure could use a face lift!! (::grin::)

Regarding the wreath -- I bought a fiber-optic one about 5 years ago (battery powered) and after my husband packed it away the second time we use it, I've never been able to find it again!! So this year, while in Walgreens', I found a wreath made of shiny green mylar leaves, green garland, and red berries. Very light, very bright, and only $5.98. Bingo! Looks great against our white door/red brick house.

Hope you solve your wreath-gate. BTW, if that is a picture of your tree -- W. O. W. !!! Great job!

  4. Wow! What a Christmas tree! I have hardly any Christmas decorations up this year. Each year I make a little bit less of an effort...

I found you via Backlist ebooks, by the way - we're both listed there.

Happy holidays and wishing you all the best for 2011.
