And the diet drags on . . .

I've been on a diet for more than 6 weeks now. The first 2.5 weeks were on Atkins. I really don't know if I lost any weight because our scale died.

That was not good. Before it died it blurted that I had not only regained the 2.5 pounds I thought I'd lost, but gained another 1.5 pounds. Then we bought a new one almost a month ago. When I got on it, it said I had lost five pounds that the other one had said I'd gained. I like that scale MUCH better than old one. (We tossed the old one in the trash and did not even wish it well in it's new afterlife at the Millseat Landfill.)

So ... new scale is telling me I'm losing weight VERY SLOWLY but steadily and all because of . . . Iceberg lettuce.

Do I need to remind you how BLAND iceberg lettuce is?  The only thing that makes it paltable was adding one hard boiled egg.  (I LOVE hard-boiled eggs.)

I've been experimenting with different light dressings and so far Wishbone Lite French is the best.
Meanwhile, I've been dreaming about SWEETS.  Cake, cookies, scones, even roasted carrots.  But I'm determined to lose weight so Mr. Iceberg is my friend.

Sort of.

What do you think is the best diet food that will satisify someone who is REALLY hungry?  (And remember, I'm eating for three.)

  1. You need to switch to the new Weight Watchers PointsPlus program. I have been on it for 8 weeks and I have lost 11.2 pounds and I am not hungry. Seriously, it flipping works and I haven't lacked in food choices.

  2. I also have a friend who just recently lost 50+ pounds on WW. However, I lost quite easily on Atkins and was never hungry. I did, however, get very tired of no grains and of using Splenda.

  3. I've been on WW one month and I'm doing pretty good (still trying to break the 5 pounds loss mark). I'm not starving for food, sometimes I don't even eat the points that I'm allowed.

I do find that eating an apple with one slice of cheese and a glass of water curbs my appetite.

  4. Try Romaine lettuce. It's much better in nutrients and not as 'blah' as Iceberg.

  5. LOL-Carole720, Romaine is MUCH better than iceburg--but it's also $1.50 more a bag. (I R Cheap!)

  6. Hi Lorraine,

I'm doing SouthBach, which is similar to Atkins, and for dessert I do 1/2 cup of part-skim ricotta chesse mixed with a splash of vanilla, a tsp of splenda and chocolate baking powder to taste (usually around a tsp or two). It totally fulfills my sweet cravings AND my chocolate cravings.

Good luck and don't worry about losing slowly - that's the healthy way to do it.

PS - Iceburg is awful. :)

  7. I've lost 8 pounds so far. I wish it was more ... but hopefully I'll continue to lose slowly but surely. Like it or not, iceberg lettuce has helped me do it.

  9. I've been trying to lose weight for a very long time. You know drinking skim milk, eating salads, etc. Well, now I have switched to almond milk(unsweetened)because it has fewer calories than skim milk and no sugar!!!!!! I've also switched to almond butter....yum!!!! If you want chocolate, try Nutella. It's a chocolate hazelnut spread. When I get chocolate cravings I will grab a tsp of that and that takes care of cravings :o) I don't know about you but there are days I must have something crunchy! I tried wasabi peas. Definitely crunchy with a KICK!
Good luch on the weight loss! BTW, our local news said to try eating with the nondominate hand. You slow down eating because you concentrate on holding the fork. Eating slowly is a BIG help!!!!!!

  10. Great ideas, Carol. I'm going to try eating with my left hand for lunch. (Glad I've got a big place mat!)

  11. A year ago I decided to just change my whole way of eating. Cut out sweets almost entirely and before long my craving was gone, i.e. all summer all I had was 2 small soft serve vanilla cones. I had one brownie in the fall. I also stopped going to fast food places, avoid fried foods (which don't agree with my aging stomach anyway), and cut out junk like potato chips. At one year I've lost 27 lbs and I'm still losing about a pound a month now. Moreover I'm satisfied with my new nutritional agenda.
